So instead of writing another post about the history of the movie camera, I'm going to tell you who Definition Films actually is, how we work, and why the brands that matter in this county keep coming back to us. It started with a motocross bike
I started filming in 2008 because I wanted to capture what it felt like to race a dirt bike at full speed, and nobody else was getting it right. I was a freshman at Windsor High School. I picked up a camera and figured it out.

Canon C500 Mark II and C300 Mark III cinema cameras, a DJI Ronin 4D, a DJI Inspire 3, lighting, audio, the whole kit. We're FAA Part 107 certified for drone work. Owning our equipment means no rental delays, no surprise line items, and a crew that knows its tools cold. It also means when a client needs us tomorrow, we can be there tomorrow.
Post production is in house
Our editors, colorist, and VFX artist sit in our studio in Santa Rosa, not in a contractor's inbox somewhere. Ridge Vineyards is in its fourth year with us. During harvest we've shot footage and delivered finished reels in under 48 hours so they could share the season while it was still happening. We've filmed in the cellars at Monte Bello and Lytton Springs, the halls of Providence hospitals, the shops and labs at every SRJC campus, construction sites in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, and farms from Sebastopol to Healdsburg. Our film for Redwood Empire Food Bank, The Journey of a Meal, won a Muse Creative Award Platinum in 2025. Deel, Kami Home, and Andrew Carruthers' Violin each took Gold. Awards aren't why we do this, but they're a useful check that the people outside Sonoma County agree with the people inside it.

Our studio is in Santa Rosa and most of our work happens within an hour of it: Healdsburg, Windsor, Sebastopol, Petaluma, Sonoma, Napa, and down through Marin to San Francisco. We travel when the project calls for it. We've shot in Mexico, Shanghai, and New York. But Sonoma County is home, and it's where we're best.
